JANICE'S JOURNAL
HELLO AGAIN!
As you may have noticed, Spring is in the air! It's so nice to see the return of the robins, blue jays, and the black birds. The air is rich with the sounds of birds chirping in the morning.
You may have also noticed the buds on the trees, the green tint to the grass after the rain and the fresh air.
It's so nice to have longer days too. I don't like daylight savings time at first, because I always want that extra hour of sleep, but it is worth it to have more sunshine in the evening.
Many of you are preparing for company to be coming for the holidays in the near future, or for graduations. I know I am sprucing up the place, as we have a senior this year.
It's hard to believe that he graduates already!
Some of you will be lucky enough to be picking out bedding plants and garden seeds. It seems like mowing lawns will be just around the corner. (I can't wait!)
I like to do things outside and pretty much plan as many things as possible to do outdoors. Those of you who know me, know I enjoy fishing the most!
Be sure to look over the newsletter for upcoming events. There is lots to do both indoors and out.
Sorry for the short notice for the movie on Friday, May 3rd. It looked like the best movie for us to see in the upcoming movies available. I hope you can make it. It was a fun show years ago, it will be interesting to see what the movie makers have added and enhanced.
Enjoy your days and play lots!
Janice
FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
By Terry J. Jorde, President & CEO
Traditions. We all have them, whether it's lutefisk on Christmas Eve, trick-or-treating at Halloween, or hunting for eggs at Easter. True...a lot of our traditions seem to center
around holidays and food, but only because it gives us a chance to come together with friends and family and share memories of days gone by or celebrations of life.
CountryBank USA is 35 years old this year so we also have our own "family" traditions. One of those that we celebrate every year is Syttende Mai, which translated into Norwegian literally means the "17th of May." Not being Norwegian myself, I'm not up on the history like I should be, but I'm pretty sure the celebration is something like our own Independence Day, except instead of backyard BBQ's and fireworks, we eat lefse and krumkake and tell Ole and Lena jokes while admiring the handiwork of some of the talents of area Norwegians.
So this year will be no exception and we hope that you will join us to help celebrate our 35th annual celebration of Syttende Mai on Friday, May 17th (of course). Even if you're not even a little bit Norwegian, but you just like to get out and visit with your friends at CountryBank USA, we would love to have you join us for our family tradition.
Bring a friend... because the best part of traditions is sharing them with someone else!
See you there!
Terry

Lake Region
RELAY FOR LIFE
The 6th Annual Lake Region Relay for Life will be held on May 31st and June 1st at Roosevelt Park in Devils Lake. CountryBank USA has the distinct honor of being one of the 8 ORIGINAL teams, and has participated every year. Devonna Brenno volunteered to be the team captain this year for the CountryBank USA 10-member team. The theme they have chosen for this year is the CountryBank USA Gardeners - "Weeding out cancer". The honorary chairperson for 2002 will be Dr. Richard Johnson, who has been a very dedicated corporate sponsor of "Relay" for several years.
Last year the Lake Region Relay For Life received FIRST PLACE recognition on the national level for the most funds raised per capita. Ninety-three teams were registered and our event raised $162,155 to help in the fight against cancer!
I would like to extend a special invitation to anyone who is battling cancer or has been fortunate enough to have won the battle, to participate in the Survivor's Social and Kick-off Lap. Last year 140 survivors were registered. I would love to see that figure double this year! The "Celebration of Life" activities for survivors starts with a cake & coffee social at 6 p.m. in the shelter at Roosevelt Park. Survivors will register in the shelter and draw their hand on the "Hands of Hope" banner. Each survivor will be given a special T-shirt and is invited to participate in the first lap of the event to "kick-off" the Relay at 7 p.m. We ask that survivors pre-register if possible. If you, or someone you know would like to participate in this special event please call me at 665-5000. Transportation will be available for those who feel they are unable to walk the entire lap, and we would like this information as well when you pre-register.
For a donation of $5 or more you may purchase a luminary in memory or in honor of someone. You can contact any team member at CountryBank USA in Cando or Devils Lake for a luminary. If you need any more information please give me a call at 665-5000.
The CountryBank USA team is also selling raffle tickets for $1 each on Pampered Chef products. There will be 3 prizes: (1st) Generation II Cookware Set ($195 value), (2nd) Deluxe Stoneware Gift Set ($55 value) and (3rd) Getting Started Gift Set ($32 value). Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. (Permit No. 34602-02).

Attention:
There's a clever, new scheme scam artists are using to obtain peoples' Visa credit card numbers. Victims have received letters from "Visa Department of International Investigators" advising card holders that their card has been cancelled because they suspected it was used in "criminal Activity". The letter says the card holder will be contacted by an investigator by phone to verify the information. The bogus investigator will call and get your credit card number and other vital information. The letter advises you not to contact the bank, stating that the "issuing bank would not be able to help you."
Visa would like you to know that this is not a letter issued by them and the Visa name is being used illegally.
Unless you know who you are talking to, please do not give out important account information! Guard it like cash.
