HAPPY HOLIDAYS - 2002
KAREN'S KORNER
By Karen Riggin
November and December are very special and very busy months. Everyone is gearing up for the holidays and running in many directions. This is the time of year when we reflect on things that have happened during the past year and past holidays and it also gives us a chance to gather together with family and friends. I look forward to Thanksgiving and I can almost smell the Thanksgiving turkey cooking already! We have so much to be thankful for!

Giving Thanks |
 |
For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home,
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land,
For the cunning and strength of the workingman's hand,
For the good that our artists and poets have taught,
For the friendship that hope and affection have brought,
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
For the homes that with purest affection are blest,
For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest,
For our country extending from sea unto sea;
The land that is known as the "Land of the Free",
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving! (Author Unknown)
CountryNeighbors Club - Christmas Luncheon
We will be having our annual Christmas Appreciation Luncheon for all our members on Thursday, December 12th at the Elks in Devils Lake. The Elks is cooking up a special dinner for us including Roast Turkey with all the trimmings and a delightful, cool, dessert. Dinner will be served at 11:45 a.m. followed by some AWESOME entertainment.
I am very pleased to tell you that our program will be presented by "Special Delivery". For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of listening to "Special Delivery", they are a musical group from the Cando area. They specialize in gospel and contemporary music and are absolutely fantastic! We are very proud that our very own Cathy Anfinson, who works in CountryBank USA in Cando, is a part of this musical group.
So, after we have filled our tummies with a very delicious meal, we can sit back and enjoy the music! There may be a few door prizes too!
We are pleased to provided this special day for you. It is our way of thanking you for your support the past year and to thank you for being our customers and our friends.
Oh ya - there is one catch!!! We really need to have a count of how many to plan for so sign up is a must for the dinner. Please sign up by Thursday, December 5th. Call Janice at 968-4421 or Karen at 665-5000.
Holiday Recipe
I just couldn't send a holiday letter without enclosing a favorite holiday recipe.
| MOM'S AUNT SALLY COOKIES |
| 1 cup white sugar |
4 tsp soda |
| 1 cup Crisco shortening |
1 tsp ginger |
| 1 cup molasses |
1 tsp cinnamon |
| 2/3 cup hot water |
1 tsp salt |
| 2 eggs |
6 cups flour |
Cream first five ingredients; blend dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture. Chill, roll out on lightly floured surface, cut with a Spam can and place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes in 350 degree oven. Cool and frost.
| FROSTING |
| 1 ˝ Cups sugar |
1 tsp vinegar |
| ˝ Cup boiling water |
12 large marshmallows, cut in half |
| 2 beaten egg whites |
1 tsp pure vanilla |
Add sugar to boiling water; boil to soft-ball stage then add to the 2 beaten egg whites. Beat until stiff; add vinegar, marshmallows and vanilla. Beat until very thick and spread on cooled cookies.
FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
As we enter the holidays, I wish all of you the peace and comfort that the season brings. Take the opportunity to reconnect with family and friends and find joy in the little things that we so often take for granted.
We truly are blessed to live in such a great state like North Dakota - in these great United States of America. Freedom is a gift that I, for one, am very grateful for.
Have a happy, safe and blessed holiday season! Terry J. Jorde, President & CEO
