Karen's Korner
by Karen Riggin

If April showers bring May flowers, what does April snow bring? Hopefully we've seen the last of that nice white stuff for a few months!! I know I am getting very anxious to get outdoors in the nice warm sunshine. Thoughts of spring always remind me of this great poem by William Wordsworth.

Daffodils
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay;
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee;
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company;
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

May 15th, 16th & 17th

This is a three day party you won't want to miss.

Day one: Welcome aboard! You'll depart from Bismarck by motor coach and arrive in Roseville, MN. Then you'll have the opportunity to tour a beautiful turn-of-the-century 33 room mansion called the American Swedish Institute and enjoy an authentic "Swedish Dinner". You'll "fall to pieces" when you hear the performance of "A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline." Enjoy some of her favorite hits and the award winning performance.

Day two: Rise and shine to breakfast and get ready to tour the Scandinavia Bake Shop. Enjoy the finest treats around - you can even take some home with you. Next, tour the Science Museum of Minnesota and the fascinating Smithsonian Institute exhibit of "The Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga". This is a world-renowned exhibit of Viking artifacts and historical objects dating back to the 800's AD. Lunch will include the ever famous Murray's for High Tea. Then off to tour the OLSEN FISH COMPANY founded in 1910 AND the world's largest maker of lutefisk! Yum Yum! Our next visit will be the Old Muskego Church, built by the Norse immigrants in 1844. To finish a fun day, dinner is at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and a hilarious performance of "The Meshuggah Nuns." It should be the perfect ending to a fun day.

Day three: After breakfast, we'll depart for "SPRINGTIME at BACHMAN'S" and making the usual comfort stops along the way. We should be arriving early in the evening.

So how much is all of this going to cost you ask? The price per person is $459.00. If you bring a friend, and who wouldn't want to with all of the things to do and share, the cost is $359.00 per person and if you really want to party, the cost for triple is $339.00 per person. The price also includes:
  • Deluxe motor coach and baggage handling and it's fully escorted.
  • You'll be staying at the RADDISON HOTEL.
  • Two breakfasts, 1 lunch and 3 dinners.

Points to Ponder
  • Is it okay to use the AM radio after noon?
  • What do you call a male ladybug?
  • Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack?
  • Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
  • Why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?
No Pun Intended
  • Two boll weevils grew up in South Carolina. One went to Hollywood and became a famous actor. The other stayed behind in the cotton fields and never amounted to much. The second one, naturally, became known as the lesser of two weevils!

  • A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of the twins goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal". The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan". Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."

  • A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why?" they asked, as they moved off. "Because, I can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer."

    Questions & Answers

    Q.   Did you ever wonder why dimes, quarters and half dollars have notches, while pennies and nickels do not?

    A.   The US Mint began putting notches on the edges of coins containing gold and silver to discourage holders from shaving off small quantities of the precious metals. Dimes, quarters and half dollars are notched because they used to contain silver. Pennies and nickels aren't notched because the metals they contain are not valuable enough to shave.
