JANICE'S JOURNAL
GREETINGS!
This is my first attempt at writing the newsletter, so bear with me. I was afraid I wouldn't have much to say, but then considered the "gift of gab" bestowed to me by my mother, and so I thought I was up to the challenge.
This year has brought about a lot of changes, most of them sobering. While I don't want to dismiss the importance and impact of the 9-11 tragedy, I do want to remember that we do go on and that we should live life to the fullest.
With that thought, I would like to remind our CNC friends that we have some fun things to offer and would enjoy sharing them with you.
Karen and I would like you to take advantage of all our club has to offer.
Springtime seems to be right around the corner considering the excellent weather we have been having. (Watch it storm the day you get this letter…)
And with springtime, comes Easter and new resolutions. Seems like we just had a few resolutions for the New Year.
Now is a time to get things in order, like doing some spring cleaning, or getting organized. While you're getting organized, just remember to include us! (No, don't get excited, we don't do windows!)
Wouldn't a trip sound fun right now? If it is storming-what better time to be away in some warm, sunny place? Be sure to check out some of the trips we have planned.
I would like to remind you to invite your friends into our club, too, as fun is much better shared.
Hope you are enjoying life and whatever you may be doing.
Janice
FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
By Terry J. Jorde, President & CEO
Last week I had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to participate as a delegate to the 2002 National Summit on Retirement Savings. Among the highlights were luncheon speeches by Alan Greenspan and President Bush. North Dakota's Congressman Pomeroy also was a breakfast speaker.
After the political speakers were through, the delegates got to work to develop action plans to educate and persuade the American public about the dire need to plan for retirement. We studied each generation from the Millennial Generation (born between 1982 and present day), Generation X (1961 to 1981), The Baby Boom Generation (1943 to 1960) and The Silent Generation (1925 to 1942).
Not surprisingly, The Silent Generation grew up overprotected and suffocated during world depression and war. As a result, they are self-reliant, frugal, adaptive, and patriotic and much better prepared for retirement. Conversely, Baby Boomers (my generation) grew up indulged in a period of optimism and opportunity. Boomers are activists, youth-oriented, informal and a dominant market force. As a rule, they are not preparing adequately for retirement...with a full two-thirds of us significantly under-prepared.
The bottom line is...no matter where you are in the life cycle, it's never too late to save. At CountryBank USA, we have professionals ready to help you plan for your future. Call us if we can help.

Happy easter!
Over the years, Easter has taken on many shapes and symbols. Sometimes, we forget what it's really all about-the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the most important feast in the Christian calendar.
Some of the things associated with Easter are:
- The Easter egg-it symbolizes new life because in all living creatures, life begins in the egg.
- The Easter basket-symbolizes nests where the Easter bunny hides it's Easter eggs.
- The bunny-is a symbol originated from the pagan festival of Estre. The goddess, Estre, took on an earthly symbol of a rabbit.
- The lamb-represents Jesus and relates his death to that of the lamb sacrifices on the first Passover.
- The chick-represents new life or rebirth. The chick breaking out of it's shell is a symbol for Jesus' resurrection, when the rock was moved and he emerged from the tomb.
VEGETABLE SOUP
Some of you wanted Val Howard's vegetable soup

2 cups dices potatoes
2 cups diced carrots
2 diced celery stalks

Do you ever wonder?
The world famous Blarney stone is situated high up in the battlements of the Blarney castle. The stone is believed to be half of the Stone of Scone, which originally belonged to Scotland. Kings used to be crowned over the stone because it was thought that the stone had special powers.
The stone was given to Cormac McCarthy by Robert the Bruce in 1314 thanking him for his support in the Battle of Bannockburn. In an argument over the general rule of Queen Elizabeth I, the queen told McCarthy that he was giving her "a lot of blarney". Thus the legend was born. It is believed that by kissing the stone one gains the powers of eloquence or the "gift of gab".
